10 Land Rover Defender Accessories We Wouldn't Be Without

When you own a Land Rover Defender, the list of accessories you could buy is almost endless.

Some genuinely transform how you travel. Others look great on Instagram but rarely get used.

Having spen severalt years building Defender campers and using our own Defender, Skafta, on adventures across the UK and Europe, we've discovered a handful of products that have become absolute essentials.

These aren't accessories we've admired from afar—they're products we've fitted, lived with and relied on during trips to Germany, the Isle of Mull, the Lake District and countless weekends away.

Here are the ten Land Rover Defender accessories we'd buy again without hesitation.

1. Alu-Cab Shadow Awning

If we could only choose one exterior accessory, this would probably be it. It's absolutely amazing and by far the best awning we fit to any of our campers. 

The Alu-Cab Shadow Awning is incredibly quick to put out and creates a huge sheltered living space in just a few minutes.

Whether you're escaping the rain in the Lake District or looking for shade during a hot European road trip, it completely changes how you use your Defender.

Unlike many roll-out awnings, the Shadow Awning feels exceptionally solid and is designed for genuine overland travel but is just as useful for  campsite use to escape the sun or rain!

2. Alu-Cab Shower Cube

This is one of those accessories you don't realise you need until you've used it.

Mounted neatly to the side of the vehicle, the Alu-Cab Shower Cube unfolds into a private changing room, shower enclosure or toilet tent within seconds.

For wild camping and remote travel, it's invaluable.

We've used ours for everything from changing out of wet hiking gear to showering after long days in the mountains.

It packs away neatly, takes almost no interior storage space and is always ready to use.

We use the shower tent alongside our Nomadia portable gas shower that fits neatly into a front runner roof box. 

3. Front Runner Hi-Lid Storage Boxes

Storage is everything when you're travelling.

The Front Runner Hi-Lid storage boxes have become one of our favourite ways to organise equipment on the roof rack.

Instead of throwing everything into one large expedition box, these keep recovery gear, cooking equipment, tools and camping accessories organised and protected from the weather.

It also means myself (Laura) and Jacqui can both have separate boxes for our outdoor gear which helps to keep our marriage healthy! (Laura is the messy one!!) 

They're tough, well-designed and make packing for longer trips far easier.

We can easily fit 4 boxes along the length of our roof if needed - generally we have 1 crate each for kit, 1 crate for the shower and 1 crate for off roading gear. This means we can take boxes on and off when needed depending on what trip we are doing. 

4. Rear Storage Locker

Anyone who owns a Defender knows that every bit of storage counts.

The rear storage locker we use is a brilliant way of using otherwise wasted space behind the rear door.

It's perfect for storing recovery straps, tools, gloves or other equipment that you want easy access to without digging through drawers or cupboards. We use it to store our outdoor shoes which helps to keep our interior nice and clean. 

It's simple, practical and feels like it should have come from the factory.

Note: These tend to get fitted where the front runner water tank gets fitted on 5 door models so you need to check your water tank placement before fitting.  

5. Alpine Coast Molle Panels

Few accessories add as much practical storage flexibility as the Alpine Coast Molle panels.

Our favourites are the rear door panel and the side-mounted exterior panels.

They allow you to securely mount pouches, first aid kits, recovery equipment, torches, tools and countless other accessories exactly where you need them.

As your setup evolves, the panels evolve with it.

Rather than permanent shelving or cupboards, you're free to customise the layout for every trip.
